Toilet training is a major transition period that can be stressful for both child and parent. To start this process, the child must be physically, psychologically, and mentally ready.
What are the Signs of Readiness?
Generally, between 18 and 36 months is suitable for toilet training. If your child gives the following signals, it's time for training:
- If their diaper stays dry for 2-3 hours during the day.
- If they hide in a corner while pooping or make it obvious they are straining.
- If they are uncomfortable with a wet or dirty diaper and want it changed.
- If they understand and follow simple commands (e.g., "Put the cup on the table").
Tips for a Successful Process
Once you decide to train, you must stop using diapers completely. Putting underwear on during the day and a diaper at night confuses the child. Buy a potty that is attractive and suitable for the child. Initially, ask if they need the toilet every hour. When accidents happen, absolutely do not get angry or shame them. Encourage them by saying, "You can do it in the potty next time."
